What's a good beginner flute I can buy?

I’m a violinist and so whatever knowledge I have about musical instruments is limited to strings–I know absolutely nothing about woodwind instruments.

So, to make a long story short, I’m interested in learning the flute but I have no idea what student flutes are reputable and durable. I’m willing to spend up to 0.

Can anybody help me? Thank you so much for your help!

I’m a flute player for 3 years but I’m clueless about the kind of flutes to buy. I’ve been told a lot, though, that Yamaha makes a good student ‘step up flute’, open-holed. Since I’m going into high school this year, I really need a better flute! But I don’t know what to buy and how much money it will cost!

But since I’m just about convinced Yamaha is the best for me, does anybody know the EXACT model that is best for what I’ve described, and how much it should cost?
Yes I’ve talked to the owner of a music store and an employee who has a degree in flute performance, as well as my old (awesome) band director who’s instrument was flute, and they all said Gemeinhardt isn’t what it used to be.

Should I buy a flute or rent one first?

I’m just starting the flute again but it’s term 2 and I was suppose to enrol in flute lessons at school at the beginning of the year. Should I get tutor and possibly rent a flute… or buy a flute and try to get back on track with my old music sheets and instruction booklets before starting lessons…?

My teacher might tell me it’s too late, if that was the case, should I find a tutor outside of school or practice on my own?

Is it worth buying a flute ?

I’m set on buying a Yamaha student flute but my brother has been going on and on about how i’ll lack of motivation and soon get bored of it. He recommends me to continue my piano lessons or try and take guitar lessons..or like, urm get into drums… Better chances to form a band.. whereas flutes are more leaned towards orchestras and classical musics…I love my brother but I’m just not a string-drums type of person like he is. And since I rely on him to help me buy an instrument ( considering my parents wants me to buy with my own money ), how can I convince him that a flute is just worth buying ?

Help Choose a Di Zhao or Pearl Student Flute?

I have narrowed my choice of student flutes to the Di Zhao DZ201 with the split E option or the Pearl PF-505.

I have a question. The Di Zhao 201 has open holes which I plan to close with plugs. (The 200 plateau flute has no split E option as does the 201.)

Do silicone or cork plugs get dirty quickly or rot or cause any other problems? I plan to use close holes for quite a while, I think.

Has anyone played either flute or both? I think I like a wood tone, but is that a good tone for a flute to have?

          Any recommendations?

I can’t play them at a local store so I’ll have to buy over Internet. I doubt I can try both, at least at the same time.

For a first flute should I get C foot or B foot?

I currently have an open-holed, in-line G, B-foot Gemeinhardt with a solid silver headjoint that has numerous problems. It’s not worth it to fix its problems. I am in my high school’s Wind Ensemble, the highest band, and we play at a very high level. I would like to keep the price relatively low, probably under 00 (or, more preferably, 00.) I would like a very reliable, nice instrument at my current flute’s characteristics or higher. What is a good recommendation for a flute for me? Thank you!

I am a freshman in high school, and I have been playing flute since fourth grade. I have been playing the same flute since sixth grade, and my teacher recently suggested upgrading my student flute to a better model. I currently am playing an Armstrong. I’m looking for a French flute (open holes) with an offset G and a silver headjoint, preferably within 00. Any suggestions?

I’ve been playing for about 6 years and I know nothing about what flutes are good. I bought one on ebay a couple months ago and my band teacher said it was not a good flute because it’s a student flute. What’s different about a student flute?

Also for band I go all the way up to a high c. Like a really high c. My band teacher said that’s the highest note on the flute. I looked on the internet to see how to do it because I forgot and it has all the way to a high F. It says it’s for modern flute/base flute/piccolo. What’s a modern flute? Is that just a normal flute? And can a piccolo go all the way up to that really really high F? Man that’ll hurt my ears for sure haha :p
          thanks

How to care for your band flute

Beginner flute players just learning to play the flute may want to know how to care for it. This video explains about not using fluffy “pad savers”, how to avoid abrading pads when cleaning fingerprints, and how NOT to put your swabbing cloth into the case where the dampness will transfer itself back onto the flute.
