Help Choose a Di Zhao or Pearl Student Flute?
I have narrowed my choice of student flutes to the Di Zhao DZ201 with the split E option or the Pearl PF-505.
I have a question. The Di Zhao 201 has open holes which I plan to close with plugs. (The 200 plateau flute has no split E option as does the 201.)
Do silicone or cork plugs get dirty quickly or rot or cause any other problems? I plan to use close holes for quite a while, I think.
Has anyone played either flute or both? I think I like a wood tone, but is that a good tone for a flute to have?
Any recommendations?
I can’t play them at a local store so I’ll have to buy over Internet. I doubt I can try both, at least at the same time.

Both good flute brands to play. Are you a beginner beginner ? or have you been playing for a few years? If you are a complete beginner I would go for the pearl. It should be cheaper than the Di Zhao. You will not need open hole for a while. Never played a Di zhao yet but i hear good reviews from the flute teachers I know who HAVE tried. If you have played for a while I would go the Di Zhao.
Are you sure that you can’t try them both? Many reputable flute shops will sent it to you to try for a week of two. Maybe worth traveling to the flute shop if you can’t get them shipped. Flute tone depends on a whole lot of personal factors, Lips, Chin, fingers etc which are all individual as well as room size, temperature etc. What Sounds warm on the computer but in fact be the opposite in real life.
