Is it worth buying a flute ?
I’m set on buying a Yamaha student flute but my brother has been going on and on about how i’ll lack of motivation and soon get bored of it. He recommends me to continue my piano lessons or try and take guitar lessons..or like, urm get into drums… Better chances to form a band.. whereas flutes are more leaned towards orchestras and classical musics…I love my brother but I’m just not a string-drums type of person like he is. And since I rely on him to help me buy an instrument ( considering my parents wants me to buy with my own money ), how can I convince him that a flute is just worth buying ?

If you want to go for it. I teach flute in several schools and there are just as many flute players as guitarists or drummers, It is a popular instrument. If you really want to play get a part time job and save up for yourself. That way it doesn’t matter what your brother thinks
If you can answer these questions you probably can convince him:
Why the flute and not any other instrument or woodwind?
How much time will I commit to practicing?
Where will I play and with whom and for what?
What do I feel when I here the flute played?
Also, you might try a compromise and try out a flute at the store or you could have him rent to own a flute. Tell him flutes are in high demand and if you get sick of it you can just sell it.
Guitar and drums guitar and drums guitar and drums guitar and drums——the ratio of these instruments compared to flute is phenomenal ! How many dream of making a band and if they do who wants to hear it–who wants to pay to hear it?
Get the flute .Get into a school group. Enjoy yourself.
If you enjoy playing the flute that is the most important thing, and there is no reason why you can’t be in a band and play the flute (there are bands such as Jethro Tull which feature the flute). If you want to make a career of playing in an orchestra then the odds are not the best because there are usually only two flute parts in an orchestra and it is quite a common instrument in schools so there is a lot of competition (orchestral wind instruments with less competition are the oboe and bassoon – at least they were when I was younger). A professional orchestral flautist will also usually be expected to play the piccolo and alto flute as well. If you can play the flute well you will also probably be able to get along with the saxophone as they have the same key fingerings.
