What model of Yamaha open-holed flute should I get for going into high school?
I’m a flute player for 3 years but I’m clueless about the kind of flutes to buy. I’ve been told a lot, though, that Yamaha makes a good student ‘step up flute’, open-holed. Since I’m going into high school this year, I really need a better flute! But I don’t know what to buy and how much money it will cost!
But since I’m just about convinced Yamaha is the best for me, does anybody know the EXACT model that is best for what I’ve described, and how much it should cost?
Yes I’ve talked to the owner of a music store and an employee who has a degree in flute performance, as well as my old (awesome) band director who’s instrument was flute, and they all said Gemeinhardt isn’t what it used to be.

The Yamaha Step Up flute 361 at around $1,000 with open holes would seem your best choice.
I have been told that Gemeinhardt is using softer metal in their keys which is not desireable from a maintenance standpoint
Good luck
Now I know you said you’re pretty much set on a Yamaha, but I do recommend a Gemeinhardt. I purchased one after playing for about 2 years, and it is my baby. It ran me about $1,700, but it was worth every penny. It plays beautifully, and it is very easy to maintain. I don’t know the exact model, but it’s a beautifully crafted instrument.
